New Stamps from Finland

 Posti will issue six new stamp publications with a total of 20 different designs in the first half of 2024. The stamps will be issued in two batches on January 17 and May 8.Valentine’s Day flowers, spring dreams and strawberries in January The Valentine’s Day stamps for next year will feature flowers photographed by Ilona Pietiläinen. Pietiläinen has captured various shades of friendship in abundant floral images, ranging from deep to warm. Paula Salviander is responsible for the graphic design of the stamps. The Blossoming Friendship stamp sheet’s 10 stamps contain five different domestic no-value indicator stamp designs. Jenni Tuominen has illustrated the spring stamps, which are suitable for various greetings throughout the year. These pastel-colored stamps depict animals, flowers and people and convey natural joy and positivity. The graphic design of the stamps is by Studio Jenni & Jukka. The Spring Dreams stamp sheet’s 10 stamps contain five different domestic no-value indicator stamp designs. A strawberry-themed stamp designed by Klaus Welp will also be published in January. The fresh and simple timeless stamp evokes the familiar taste of summer. The Taste of Summer stamp sheet has 10 domestic no-value indicator stamps. Underwater life, royal horses and party mood in May In May, European postal administrations will publish the Europa stamps with the theme of underwater fauna and flora. The animal for the Finnish Europa stamps is the Macroplea pubipennis leaf beetle, which thrives in shallow and sheltered sea bays. The stamp depicting flora features the Zostera marina seagrass, the only fully submerged seed plant in the Baltic Sea. The stamp was designed by Susanna Rumpu and Ari Lakaniemi. The Europa – Underwater fauna and flora stamp sheet’s 10 stamps contain two different domestic no-value indicator stamp designs. The Kuninkuusravit race, arranged for the 100th time next July and hosted in Jyväskylä, is the highlight of the Finnish horse racing summer. To celebrate the anniversary, Posti will publish stamps designed by Stiina Hovi, featuring the three-time winner Evartti and race queens Lumi-Oosa and Suven Sametti, accompanied by Sirpsakka, making her debut in this year’s Queen’s Race. New Finish stamp for World Heritage Site

A stamp for the “measuring tape” of the globe

 
On May 6, the Finnish Post Office will supplement the Finnish stamp collection for 2011 by issuing a souvenir sheet in its world heritage series honoring the Struve Geodetic Arc site. The Struve Geodetic Arc used to determine the size and shape of the globe. The Struve Geodetic Arc was used for determining the size and shape of the globe. The arc, which is approximately 2,820 kilometers long, extends from the Black Sea in Ukraine all the way to the Arctic Ocean in Norway. The arc was named after F.G.W. Struve who managed the measurement in 1816—1855. The arc measurement stations are located in ten countries: Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, Finland, Sweden and Norway. The 34 most representative measurement points of the Struve Arc were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as a joint site of ten countries in 2005. The miniature sheet designed by Susanna Rumpu and An Lakaniemi indicates the six points located in Finland. There two stamps on the sheet  whereupon on stamp is inside the other.  The outer stamp is round, and the inner has the shape of the map of Finland. Both stamps are  for 2nd class mail. The die cut stamps are on self-adhesive stamp paper and were printed by the firm of Joh. Enschede Stamps of the Netherlands by the Web Offset method in a quantity of 300,000 sheets.  The round outer stamp has a 42mm diameter while the inner irregular Finnish map stamp has a size of 20 X 38mm. On The same date another souvenir sheet will also be issued.  The Happiness Tree souvenir sheet is ment to be used for Spring and Summer celebrations like births, graduations and other happy events..   The sheet contains 5 die cut stamps “hanging” off various branches of the tree.  The sheet was designed by graphic artist Paivi Unenge whose work has previously appeared in may Children’s books and on picture postcards. This sheet was also printed in a quantity of 300,000 sheets by the Netherland’s security printer Joh. Enschede and Sons.

finland issues unusual shaped stamps

A daring, form-cut format stands out from the rest Finnish stamps released in January which focus on anniversaries, the Finnish National Opera and distinctive Finnish mailboxes. For the Finnish Post Office the year 2011 begins on January24 with the release of seven sets consisting of 22 different stamps. The visual themes of the stamps are the opera, the Finnish flag, Valentine’s Day, mailboxes, the spring, and extra-fee stamps with a nature theme. The stamp designers include both new prominent graphic artists, and professionals who have been in the business for a long time.

Design with an open mind

 

 

A miniature sheet entitled “Branches of Friendship” will be released in February to celebrate Valentine’s Day — known as Friendship Day in Finland. The stamps, illustrated by Janne Harju, show happy bird-like characters in their colorful nests. The open-minded design of the five form-cut stamps in the miniature sheet stands out from traditional stamps. The width of the largest stamp in the miniature sheet is over 11 cm. “The spring of life” stamp booklet, depicting nature’s awakening from beneath the winter snow cover, is another product of the new generation of designers. The bird and flower stamps in the five-stamp booklet, designed by graphic artist Pietari Posti, are particularly suitable for different kinds of greetings.

The visual themes of a miniature sheet, published to mark the centenary of the Finnish National Opera, focus on scenes from six popular operas from different points in time. The operas selected in the miniature sheet, designed by Tarja Salonen, include “The Last Temptations” by Joonas Kokkonen, “The Red Line” by Aulis Sallinen, and “The Knight of the Rose” by Richard Strauss. The Blue Cross Flag, famihar to all Finns, is flown in an impressive 2nd class stamp, designed by Minna Luoma and implemented with letter press. Mailboxes are an inherent part of the Finnish landscape and everyday life. Five genuine Finnish mailboxes in actual use are the visual theme of roll stamps designed by Päivi Vainionpää. The personal boxes also tell a story of their owners’ life.

Two extra-fee stamps with a different value were also be released in January. the stamps are intended for adding to the value of previously purchased stamp. The themes of these make-up stamps designed by Teemu Ollikainen and Timo Berry are a birch bud with a face value of .20 Euros and a birch leave with a face value of .30 euros. The stamps are cut in the shape of the plus sign, clearing indicating that they are intended to be used as make-up stamps to pay for current postal charges.

Finland issues Christmas Stamps

Santa Claus, reindeer and Northern lights lend wings to the journey of Christmas mail
The Finnish Christmas stamps were released on November 5, 2010. There are three different stamps. The value of the first two stamps corresponds with the lower 0.55 Euro Christmas postage rate, whereas the third stamp is for the 1St class rate of 0.75 Euros. The stamps were designed by Tommi Vallisto. The lower rate stamps were printed in a quantity of 42,000,000 stamps by Walsall Security Printers on self-adhesive stamp paper. Each stamp has a size of 34.5 by 24.5 mm. A sheet is composed of twenty stamps (10 of each design) The 1st class stamp was printed in a quantity of 6,000,000 stamps by the same printing firm.

The theme of the first two Christmas stamps are Santa’s Reindeer and close up picture of Santa Claus. The First Class rate stamp shows Santa Claus in his sled riding across the night sky in Lapland.

Joint issue with Japanese Post
This year, a joint issue with Japanese Post will be published together with the previously mentioned Finnish Christmas stamps.
A five-stamp miniature sheet denominated in Euros was released in Finland. The sheet is the work of four Japanese designers: Masaki Koine, Sonoko Arai, Ken Kuroi and Goro Sasaki. The joint issue comprises 500,000 sheets in Finland. The mini sheet measures 187 by 67.5 mm while the individual stamps have a size of 25.8 by 34.8 mm.

The Christmas stamps designed by Tommi Vallisto were due to be published in Japan on November 8. Last year, two of the Finnish Christmas stamps designed by Minna Immunes were issued in Japan.

The first day postmark for the new stamps was at the Stamp 2010 event at the Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Every year Santa Claus receives thousands of letters from all over the world. They arrive to Santa Claus’ Post Office on the Arctic Circle, north of the town of Rovaniemi. A Letter from Santa Claus, cancelled with the Arctic Circle postmark, can now also be ordered to be sent to any address in the world.
The Letter, illustrated by artist Nina Rintala, and the postcard-size 2011 wall calendar, are sent in an envelope, also illustrated with Nina Rintala’s characters, with Christmas stamps attached. Domestic postal services to be centralized in Itella Posti Oy

On January 1, 2011, Itella which is the public corporation which operates the Finish Post Office will transfer its operations in the parent company of Itella Corporation to a new subsidiary called Itella Posti Oy. The reform will reorganizes the structure of the Itella Corporation in Finland.
Itella Posti Oy, which will start operations on January 1, 2011, will offer postal services that include, for example, delivery of letters, newspapers and periodicals and direct mail, parcel and express transport services as well as the Posti shops and agencies.
